Good Morning People!!!
Chester opened the photo file of his younger self that he had just received in an email from Jim Regan. Jim was the lawyer who defended him in his 1989 felony conviction, which sent him to prison at 15. Chester had reached out to Jim for assistance in locating his prison entry photo to use on the cover of his upcoming autobiography. When Jim defended Chester, he was just starting his law practice, and the loss they both experienced that day was damaging—not only to Chester, but also to Jim. Because of this, Jim never wanted to really defend any other children. He apologized once more to Chester for losing the case that sent him to prison so young.
Chester then broke it down. After explaining all of his recent accomplishments to Jim, he ended by saying, “We didn’t lose that day, Jim. We won. If I hadn’t gone through what I did then, I wouldn’t be the person I am now.”

“The past is not a burden if you know how to carry it.” — Unknown.
Looking at my mugshot (at the person I used to be) was the best closure I could have received at such an age. As I looked back into the eyes of this past version, I could feel that person thanking me for not giving up on him. In turn, I had to smile back and thank him for giving me the stories I now share with the world. Listen up, people: the person you used to be has so much relevance to the person you have become. Never forget the version of yourself that holds all of your life’s lessons, because the moment you do will be the moment you forget who you really are.
