Good Morning People!!!
In 1972, what has been known as, ‘The Match of the Century’, was going down in Iceland. It was the World Chess Championship between challenger Bobby Fischerof the U.S. and def. champion Boris Spassky of the Soviet Union. Spassky was a cunning player and had spent a lot of time studying Fischer’s way of play, so he felt confident enough that he would eliminate Fischer’s chances of a world chess title. What he wasn’t anticipating was playing 21 games of chess with one of the most unpredictable players he’d ever sat across from. You see, Bobby anticipated Spassky’s approach and in order to throw him off, Fischer spent the next few months moving around in a way he’d never done before. This totally threw Spassky off of his game and after only 40 moves in the 21st game, Spassky forfeited the competition. Fischer had eliminated him because Spassky just couldn’t compete with what he couldn’t see coming.
